Top 5 Benefits Of Using Coconut Oil

It is my duty as an Online Personal Trainer to emphasise the importance of regular physical exercise, but it also critically important that you make sure that you eat well at all times. Not only just to lose body fat, but also so to maintain good health.

If you don’t give your body a good mix of healthy foods, it will impact your energy levels, recovery rates, immune system, and can increase the risk of chronic disease.

One food substance that has become more and more talked about, this the benefits of using coconut oil.

Coconut oil is saturated fat, and for many years advice has been given to avoid saturated fats as it can be a major cause of heart disease.

The important fact is that coconut oil is a form of medium-chain triglyceride, so while it is saturated fat, it’s different than the type of fat you’d find in a fatty cut of beef or a portion of French fries.

The primary form of fat is medium-chain triglyceride broken down into lauric acid, caprylic acid, myristic acid, and palmitic acid. Besides, coconut oil has a small amount of polyunsaturated (same properties as walnuts and salmon) as well as monounsaturated fatty acids, including linoleic and oleic acids. Coconut oil also a rich source of vitamin E, vitamin K, and iron.

Here are my Top 5 Benefits Of Using Coconut Oil

1. Coconut Oil Can Be Helpful For Heart Patients

Consuming coconut oil in small doses regularly can help to significantly lower your risk of heart problems such as high blood pressure and heart disease. This is due to its high lauric acid content. This form of oil is going to increase good cholesterol levels (High-density lipoprotein or HDL) while decreasing bad cholesterol levels (low-density lipoproteins or LDL). Coconut oil can also reduce the risk of plaque build-up, which is made up of fat, cholesterol, calcium, and other substances found in the blood which leads to hardened arteries.

2. Coconut Oil Best Known For Faster Weight-Loss Results

Not only will the oil help to calm hunger since it is a form of dietary fat, but it can also help to speed up the metabolic rate slightly. A 4-week study in 20 adults with obesity observed that taking 2 tablespoons (30 ml) of this oil daily significantly reduced waist circumference in male participants.

Since the more calories you burn on a daily basis, the more fat you tend to lose, this works in your favor. Especially when you first add coconut oil to your diet, you’ll notice a good acceleration of your resting metabolism. Please note, that like all fats, coconut oil is high in calories. When trying to reach your desired weight, make sure that you use it in small amounts to enhance the taste of your foods while keeping a check on your calorie.

3. Coconut Oil Can Help With Digestion

Those who suffer from stomach related-conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome will often notice that coconut oil can help with relieving those unpleasant symptoms.

Organic coconut oil contains a property known as lauric acid. The human body converts lauric acid into monolaurin and this gives it its antibiotic, antibacterial, antiviral, and antifungal properties. Another benefit of coconut oil is that it helps to eliminate toxic bacteria and candida, which fights poor digestion and stomach inflammation, and helps prevent stomach ulcers.

4. Benefits Of Using Coconut Oil To Boosts the Immune System

Your immune system is stressed each day as you encounter a variety of different environmental pollutants. If you don’t have a strong immune system to fend it all off, you’re going to end up feeling very run down and tired. Maintaining a strong immune system is vital if you want to feel your best throughout the day. Lauric acid and caprylic acid are properties that are highly essential to strengthen the immunity system. These acids can easily fight off the bacteria and viruses that can cause harmful diseases.

Coconut oil will assist with good immune system maintenance, so this is yet another reason to add it to your diet. For more information about strengthening your immune system, please read my article, How To Boost Your Immune System.

5. Coconut Oil Also Helps Regulating Blood Sugar Levels

Coconut oil is also very good for controlling your blood glucose levels, which will reduce the amount of stress being placed on the pancreas and reduce your risk of diabetes.

In today’s world, where so many people are being diagnosed with diabetes every day, it is essential to keep this in mind when planning any diet. Some evidence suggests coconut oil can reduce the symptoms of type 2 diabetes.

A 2009 study done on animals found that a diet rich with medium-chain fatty acids, such as coconut oil, could help prevent obesity and fight insulin resistance. Both of which lead to type 2 diabetes. A more recent study using rats showed a reduction in blood glucose levels when they consumed a diet rich with medium-chain fatty acids. Conclusion

There are many reasons why you should be adding coconut oil to your diet, but you also have to be mindful of the amount that you are consuming. As listed above, there are many great benefits to adding coconut oil into your diet, also be mindful that it is also high in calories.  If you’re taking coconut oil for the first time, start gradually with one tablespoon of coconut oil and work your way up to two tablespoons per day. Ingesting too much coconut oil right off the bat can lead to nausea, stomach upset, hives, rashes, or other adverse skin conditions.
